4D Gantt

4D Gantt is a powerful integrated scheduling tool, replacing separate scheduling tools like MS Project or Primavera. It is used to manage project scheduling like area development schedule, design project schedule, construction schedule, maintenance schedule.

Toolbar

  • Import - Import schedule from MS Project, Primavera and IFC formats. 
    • Imports schedules from IFC file reads object level schedule defined in IFC model file. Objects linked to same tasks will be combined into same task, making editing schedule easier. 
  • Export - Export schedule to MS Project, Primavera, PDF, PNG, Excel or iCal formats
  • Set as Baseline - Saves current schedule as baseline to later compare actuals to baseline. 
  • Undo - Undo pervious action
  • Redo - Redo previous action
  • Grid toggle - Turns Grid table visible / hidden
  • Gantt panel toggle - Turns Gantt panel visible / hidden
  • Critical path toggle - Turns automatically calculated critical path visible / hidden
  • Baseline toggle - Turns baseline visible / hidden
  • Resource panel toggle - Turns Resource panel visible / hidden
  • Autoschedule toggle - Turns automatic scheduling on / off. Automatic scheduling will schedule tasks automaticallu based on task relations. 
  • Coloring tasks toggle - Turns Gantt timeline task coloring on / off. Task colors can be defined in task edit dialog. 
  • Fit toggle - Zooms timescle to fif the whole schedule into visible view. 
  • Condensed toggle - Makes Grid and Gantt smaller making more information visible at same time. 
  • Move mode toggle - Switches between Fixed 4D line and Movable 4D line modes. Impacts how active time is visible in Gantt panel. 
  • Timescale selector - Choose suitable visible time scale 
  • Select model - Select and link a data source or model file into selected task
  • Select object - Select and link an object into selected task
  • Filter - Filter tasks based on free text search
  • Grouping selector - Groups tasks in task hierarchy based on Task hierarchy / Priority / Type
  • Colums selector - Select columns visible in Grid table
  • Backward - Moves active time one active timescale step backwards
  • Date and time seelctor - Define active 4D date and time accurately
  • Forward - Moves active time one active timescale step forwards
  • Playback speed slector - Defines the playback speed when schedule is in Play mode
  • Play - Activates play mode which plays the schedule with selected playback speed
  • Sketch Single - Draw a Sketch Single element and link it into selected task
  • Sketch Line - Draw a Sketch Line element and link it into selected task
  • Sketch Area - Draw a Sketch Area element and link it into selected task
  • Sketch Volume - Draw a Sketch Volume element and link it into selected task

Grid

  • Rename task - Click task name to edit task name. 
  • Add new task - Press the "+" icon to add a new task below the selected task. 
  • Sorting - Click on grid header name to sort tasks based on selected column. 
  • Re-arrange tasks by dragging tasks up / down in task hierarchy. This will update task WBS codes. 

Gantt

  • Edit task
    • Drag task to move the task into new start - end times
    • Drag task start / end to extend task duration into either direction
    • Drag task completeness from small arrow sumbol below task line
    • Draw a task relation line from task to another using the circle symbols in the task ends. You can set task relations like end - start, end - end, start - start, start - end
    • Double click on task to open task editing dialog
    • Double click on task relation line to delete task relation
  • Scrolling
    • Scroll task hierarchy up / down with scroll bars or with mouse wheel
    • Scroll timeline left / right with mouse. When in 
      • Fixed 4D line mode, the timeline scrolls and active time remains fixed.
      • Movable 4D line mode, the timeline remains remains fixed and active time can be moved.

Tips

  • Import schedule from IFC allows schedules to be visualized, edited and shared for example to site engineers. Site engineers can adjust schedules and update task completeness on the site. This enhances site - office wrkflows greately. 
  • Do location based construction planning with Schedile - Sketch integration: While making a new task, you can draw Sketch models to define for example task location, task work area, or space needed to execute the task.  This way tasks will have location and you can avoid overlapping task executions.
